Creation: Area code 929 was put into service on April 16, 2011 and was the 357th area code in service. It was one of 5 area codes introduced in 2011. It was the 15th area code in the state of New York. New York currently has 22 area codes. It was created to relieve the pressure on the 347 area code as the numbers in 347 were being exhausted.
